Chamomile is one of the oldest known medicinal herbs. The Egyptians dedicated chamomile to their sun gods, as the golden flower reminded them of the burning sun. It was associated with the god Ra for its healing powers and was used as a cure for Agu, a form of malaria.

It is believed that chamomile may increase brain neurotransmitter activity (serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline) and consequentially may have positive effects on mood and reduce anxiety.
